Mid-season recap:

With several returning pieces and an infusion of talent, Boo Williams had high expectations coming into the season. Things haven’t gone exactly as planned, compiling a 3-4 record in a log-jammed division. Winning two of their last three games helped them get back on track, but just barely enough to offset some of the tough losses to teams with arguably less talent. A balanced scoring attack makes Boo very much a threat to get back to Peach Jam, but they will need to play better than they did in Brooklyn and Indianapolis.

The Star(s):

Three-year veteran Matt Coleman (13.7 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 3.1 APG) has been a bright spot in his third year on the circuit, taking the reins for Boo Williams from Day 1. The Oak Hill product can get to the rim at will, where he is just as dangerous putting the ball in the cup as he is finding an open teammate. A cerebral floor leader, Coleman has become more aggressive as a scoring threat this season but still defers to teammates as well as anyone. He is the point guard for the 2015-16 National Champion Oak Hill Warriors, so head coach Boo Williams has a certified winner leading his squad.

The Supporting Cast:

Coleman is joined in the backcourt by sophomore Keldon Johnson (13.2 PPG, 3.7 RPG) and junior KJ Davis (11.4 PPG). Johnson is more of a slasher who rarely attempts from the outside, while Davis joins Marquis Godwin as the primary perimeter threats. Big man and DeMatha product Josh Carlton (8.3 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 62.9 FG%) has been great on both ends of the floor so far, and he has emerged as more of a scoring threat as of late. Johnson has ‘star’ written all over him, and should continue to shine as the season progresses.

Session 3/4 Outlook:

With the leadership of Coleman, the budding stardom of Johnson and a talented host of guards, there is no reason to believe Boo Williams can’t win three of four in Hampton to vault themselves into serious contention. If the shots are falling and they don’t get beat on the boards, they are as dangerous as any team on the circuit and in Division B. There are plenty of winnable games on the schedule, so it would be a surprise to see Boo miss Peach Jam for the second straight year.
