Founder Dan Klores' statement on the state and progressionĀ of Renaissance Girls BasketballĀ
"The RENS are delighted with the success of our two new 7th and 8th grade girls teams. We salute the players, coaches and their families. We recognize that 2020 makes for the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, the amendment that granted women the right to vote for the first time. Our young student athletes, as well as everyone, should honor and remember the brave and courageous Suffragists who fought for women's rights." says Dan Klores, founder of the Renaissance.
Our 13U and 14U Renaissance Girls teams have been a fixture at Nike MADE Hoops events this fall, but have also made quite the impact off of the hardwood as well; team members Sienna Olivares and Skylah Kemp were chosen to the prestigious Nike Game Growers program. Game Growers is a collaboration between Nike and the WNBA in an effort to give eighth grade girls the tools and resources they need to increase girls' participation in sports in their local communities. After applying and being chosen, the girls made their way to Nike World Headquarters to refine their ideas for girls' participation in sports, with support from Nike, as well as participating WNBA and NBA teams.
"Girls basketball as a whole has made tremendous progressions as well. There was a time where women were forced to play six on a team, with three on defense and three on offense because ignorance and prejudice didn't believe that girls had the stamina to play fullcourt. The Renaissance not only salutes our own teams but all girls and women who love and partake in the game we love!" continued Klores. We look forward to the continuous efforts by our girls program to make a difference both on the court, but more importantly, in the community.
