The Favorite:

With an 11-2 record and one of the most complete rotations at Peach Jam, Phenom University (WI) enters the Peach Jam as the favorite to advance from Pool D. First Team All-EYBL selection Jalen Johnson (ESPN No. 4) showed off his elite versatility during the regular season, and the Duke commit will be a matchup nightmare for the rest of the pool. Sophomore star Patrick Baldwin Jr (ESPN No. 1) found his stride late in the season. His shooting stroke and overall offensive game are elite, and if he's hitting shots, Phenom becomes nearly impossible to beat. Throw in top 100 juniors Jaemyn Brakefield (ESPN No. 17) Reece Beekman (UVA commit), and Jamari Sibley, and you have one of the best starting rotations on the circuit.

The Contenders:

Quite frankly, the entire rest of the pool are contenders to advance out of pool play.  Boo Williams (VA) deploys the EYBL Offensive Player of the Year in Cam Thomas, and offer two other 5-star recruits alongside him in sophomores Aminu Mohammed and Zion Harmon. Mark Williams will likely be a difference-maker for Boo, as the 7-foot-2 center will operate as the tallest player in the pool. Three east coast teams - Expressions Elite (9-4), Team Final (8-5), and the NY Renaissance (8-5) - all have talented rotations. Terrence Clarke (Expressions) and Jonathan Kuminga (Renaissance) are ESPN's No. 2 and 3 rated prospects, and both Peach Jam veterans will be looking to advance out of pool play during their second run in North Augusta. The Family Detroit rounds out a talented pool, and for the first time since session one, they will be at full strength. On top of that, their opening day roster has now added the services of Lorne Bowman II (ESPN No. 100). This Pool is a complete toss-up.

The Sleeper:

Led by Kuminga, the Renaissance features one of the most talented teams on paper. They showed flashes of absolute dominance throughout the season, and the emergence of All-Breakout performer RJ Davis proved to be crucial to their season-long success. 4-star Purdue-commit Ethan Morton will man the offense for the Renaissance, and they will need him and Nate Tabor to play efficient, smart basketball throughout pool play. For this squad, it comes down to defense. They will be able to score with the best of them, but if they don't play inspired defense, they become beatable.

Quick Hitters:

  • Phenom University will be making their first trip to Peach Jam in their inaugural year on the circuit.
  • Expressions Elite is the youngest team in the pool. Three of their starters - Terrence Clarke, Moussa Cisse, and Bensley Joseph are all sophomores.
  • The Family Detroits' Maliq Carr and Scooby Johnson are both star-ranked football recruits as wide receivers. The Family also features 2019 Most Improved Player Jalen Terry
  • Boo Williams sophomore Zion Harmon returns to Peach Jam after starring as an eighth-grader in 2017.
  • Team Final is the only team to beat the No. 1 Texas Titans in the regular season.
